New Job
Today was one of those really special days because I finally found a job. When I received the email regarding my interview from Nancy, our Waterloo co-op coordinator, I was so excited and thought that the position was for an investment advisor assistant at RBC. However, when I called back, I realized that the interview was for a technical position. The good part about this job is the fact that I will be supporting the TRADERS on the TRADING FLOOR, that's one thing I will be looking forward to =P. The other thing I will be looking forward to is for RBC to sponsor me to become a mutual funds sales representative. I've recently passed my Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and now, I'm enrolled in the Professional Financial Planning Course (PFPC). My goal for this term is to write and complete my first exam for the course, and register to become a MF Sales Rep for RBC before school starts next term.
My interview was at 2:00pm. I got to the Royal Bank north tower at around 1:00pm after I had lunch with my mom in Chinatown. I took the elevator up to the 2nd floor, where all the traders are located. I picked up the phone and dialed my interviewer's extension. The answering machine picked up and so I hung up. I didn't want to leave a message because I didn't know what I was going to say, since first impressions are very critical. So I took a minute to think about what to leave on the answering machine and called again. The interview that I had today was not really a formal interview, but a very decent conversation. I felt very comfortable talking to him about myself, my experiences and that was what made the difference between getting the job and not getting it.
